There is not a “fragment” in all nature, for every relative fragment of one thing is a full harmonious unit in itself.
~ John Muir
I recently began a photography class with Kim Klassen. “My Still Sunday” is all about carving time out for yourself, taking nature walks, gathering organic materials and using them to create beautiful still imagery. When I read the description I thought, this is the class for me!
While I love the impromptu still shots of everyday life, I also enjoy the process of designing and setting up a still life image. The beauty of this is that you can use so many different elements, from things found in nature, to food, to clothing…anything really. It’s also a wonderful way to tell a story, create a mood, or just display some of your favorite things.
I know many of you are familiar with Kim’s classes and beautiful work. If not, I encourage you to check out her site HERE and be inspired!

Summer 2016
(and it’s not over just yet)
“You must know that there is nothing higher and stronger and more wholesome and good for life in the future than some good memory, especially a memory of childhood, of home. People talk to you a great deal about your education, but some good, sacred memory, preserved from childhood, is perhaps the best education. If a man carries many such memories with him into life, he is safe to the end of his days, and if one has only one good memory left in one’s heart, even that may sometime be the means of saving us.”
~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

“One’s not half of two; two are halves of one.”

Kicking back, playing with diptychs this week. Can’t believe it’s August already.
I will be here, there and everywhere for the next few weeks, squeezing in as much summer fun as time allows. I will continue to post but like last year at this time, I am shutting the comments off until September.
Enjoy the rest of August, the light is pretty amazing!

Part of a summer-long photo project I’ve been working on with Happy Gatherings Photography, inspired by the paintings of John Singer Sargent. Most of the photos in this series were styled at Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, Massachusetts, a property of The Trustees of Reservations. Truly a labor of love!
A photo exhibit is planned for later this year at The Bradley Estate.

A huge thank you to Julie Early and The Trustees of Reservations, to my colleague, Carol MacGregor of Happy Gatherings Photography
