a series of small observations
(a new photo project – ongoing)
Growing up, my mother used to boast that her kids didn’t need a circus. It was true, we were good at entertaining ourselves. Unlike kids growing up today, we were far from over-scheduled. There were just a handful of kids in our neighborhood and I was the only girl. Most days after school, my brother and I were left to our own imagination and creativity.
As an adult I have experienced some advantages from my upbringing. I am comfortable with myself when alone, I can still entertain myself and I still enjoy using my imagination. I don’t need to travel far. Often times it’s the simplest things that bring me joy, the small observations…I don’t need a circus.
“Imperfection inspires invention, imagination, creativity.
It stimulates.
The more I feel imperfect, the more I feel alive.”

“when creating, be kind to your doubt,
hear it out, thank it for its concern,
and reassure it that you are an artist,
and risk is essential.”
