Summer 2016

(and it’s not over just yet)

“You must know that there is nothing higher and stronger and more wholesome and good for life in the future than some good memory, especially a memory of childhood, of home. People talk to you a great deal about your education, but some good, sacred memory, preserved from childhood, is perhaps the best education. If a man carries many such memories with him into life, he is safe to the end of his days, and if one has only one good memory left in one’s heart, even that may sometime be the means of saving us.”
~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

Kicking back, playing with diptychs this week. Can’t believe it’s August already.

I will be here, there and everywhere for the next few weeks, squeezing in as much summer fun as time allows. I will continue to post but like last year at this time, I am shutting the comments off until September.

Enjoy the rest of August, the light is pretty amazing!

A Labor of Love

Part of a summer-long photo project I’ve been working on with Happy Gatherings Photography, inspired by the paintings of John Singer Sargent. Most of the photos in this series were styled at Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, Massachusetts,  a property of The Trustees of Reservations.  Truly a labor of love!

A photo exhibit is planned for later this year at The Bradley Estate.

to say hello.

My house will soon be filled with family and friends as we get ready for our annual reunion and Independence Day celebration.  Crazy and a bit chaotic, but I will love every minute of it.

Busy with projects and thinking about the possibility of a new venture. I was recently contacted by the editor of an online magazine and invited to join their team as a regular contributor. Run out of NYC, this site features a cornucopia of topics from world news, tech and science, to lifestyle, entertainment and the arts…and of course, that includes photography. So, given that my mantra for 2016 is “just do!” I think I’m going to give it a go.

And speaking of “just do,” Carol MacGregor (Happy Gatherings Photography) and I finished up our shoot at the beautiful Bradley Estate in Canton, Massachusetts last week. We had gorgeous weather and what a treat it was to spend the day at this magnificent place…I didn’t want to leave. We are currently working on some editing and putting together some still life images. Hope to have a post up after the 4th of July.

Until then, here’s a little peek, as we were wrapping up the day.

A little dazed after hours of shooting, but happy.

Happy weekend, everyone and since I will not be able to post next week, I want to wish all those who celebrate, a safe and happy Independence Day!

“summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. for those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. you can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. summer just opens the door and lets you out.”
~ Deb Caletti
