“This is a brief life, but in its brevity it offers us some splendid moments, some meaningful adventures.”

~ Rudyard Kipling

the sunsets over Lake Champlain are magnificent
I think I may have posted some of these photos before but
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a beautiful sky
we’ve been back and forth to Vermont a few times this summer
and hope to make another trip this fall
but at this moment, I’m packing up for a road trip to Ohio
to visit my son and celebrate his 26th birthday
26!! how can that be???

I won’t be posting for the rest of the week
but hope to catch up when I return
have a fabulous rest of the week and a wonderful weekend!

can you believe it’s almost August?!

those random moments

“There are random moments – tossing a salad, coming up the driveway to the house, ironing the seams flat on a quilt square, standing at the kitchen window and looking out at the delphiniums, hearing a burst of laughter from one of my children’s rooms – when I feel a wavelike rush of joy. This is my true religion: arbitrary moments of nearly painful happiness for a life I feel privileged to lead.”

~ Elizabeth Berg, The Art of Mending

Wishing you all many random moments of happiness this weekend!

it was time…

Lives lost

to get back into the city
even though it was a day to celebrate motherhood
I felt the need to pay tribute
to the sons and daughters who lost their lives
in the Boston Marathon bombings
as I stood there
I couldn’t help but think
it could have been one of ours
or one of yours
you always think it can’t happen where you live

after spending time amidst this amazing memorial
along with so many others this day
I was flooded with a great sense of pride for my city
as life goes on in Boston
the birthplace of freedom

No more hurting people. Peace
~Martin Richard

the spring break…

guys and their games

sunshine on my shoulder...

that wasn’t
he worked hard last week
preparing for his solo recital that’s coming up in April
memorizing all 25 minutes of a Bach Sonata
not an easy task
but after hearing it all week, I think I may know it by heart!

He did take a few breaks
to chill
to play computer games with Dad
or to go for a quick run
and to eat
yes, lots of cooking and eating
because there’s nothing like home cooked food!

it was back to school yesterday
just a little more than a month left
then he will be a college senior
how did that happen?
