these days

the old train trestle

little red barn

aside from a few jaunts around town
I’ve been mostly house-bound lately
as we’ve had some pretty hefty snowstorms
and I’ve been battling a nasty cold
which left me with very little ambition

saturday morning

a soup kind of day

my little red teapot has gotten lots of use
and I’ve been trying some new soup recipes

when snow gets in your eyes

blue bird, blue bird
the little juncos continue to be a source of entertainment
and for the first time, we had a new little visitor at the feeder

fresh flowers from the grocery store brighten up the house and remind me that spring is really not far off
and a very nice surprise from a new Flickr friend who posted a wonderful pastel painting of my tulips…how cool is that?!

Let your love shine

and today is Valentine’s Day
the sun is starting to shine
and since I’m feeling a bit better
I just may go out and play in the snow
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone
and have a wonderful weekend!

Merry Christmas to All...

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Wishing you all a joyous Christmas!

warmth

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.

~ Charles M. Schulz

nothing like hot chocolate on an icy, snowy day…
sitting at my kitchen table, pondering the weekend
I attended an open studios event
a group of local artists rent space in an old factory building not far from my home
every year they hold an open house and I go to get some inspiration…and this year I came home with lots of it!
I originally planned to go pop in for a quick visit but ended up spending the entire afternoon
making some new friendships with some very interesting people.
a most productive Sunday!

tea time

“Cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.”
~ Craig Claiborne

I was in a baking mood this weekend
so I played in the kitchen all Saturday afternoon
whipping up a variety of scones
cranberry, cranberry-white chocolate, walnut
round ones, triangular ones
it felt good to get my hands in the flour
and after kneading all that dough, every ounce of stress I had in me
magically disappeared
and better than that, they made for a yummy Sunday morning breakfast!

did you have a nice weekend?
I hope so…and I hope that if you live in the Midwest, you are safe after those horrible devastating storms.

we traveled a lot this summer
through six states
enjoyed some outdoor concerts
ate our way through farmer’s markets
had the best ice cream ever
celebrated birthdays
hiked and biked
swooned over some amazing falls…

and  just loved
being in the company of family and friends

I now have memory cards full of memories
and it will take me forever to get through them all…
but for now,

we still have a few weeks of summer left
and we are going to savor each and every moment!
