We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.
~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

I’ve been missing in action
enjoying the holidays with my family
not often that we’re all home together
we’ve been visiting with relatives and old friends
a little catching up, a little celebrating
lots of eating!

my youngest son will be playing violin at a First Night celebration tonight and after that we will return home for
our annual traditional New Year’s Eve game night by a warm fire.

and tomorrow we’ll start a whole new story

wishing you and yours happy endings and great new beginnings!

Merry Christmas to All...

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Wishing you all a joyous Christmas!

…freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin – inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night…”
~ John Geddes

decorations have been brought down from the attic
each day I put up a few
taking my time
enjoying every minute
the tree will go up this weekend
sure would be nice to get a bit of snow!

so long November

And every year there is a brief, startling moment
When we pause in the middle of a long walk home and
Suddenly feel something invisible and weightless
Touching our shoulders, sweeping down from the air:
It is the autumn wind pressing against our bodies;
It is the changing light of fall falling on us.
~ Edward Hirsch

on giving thanks

bittersweet tears

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

~ Melody Beattie
