“It’s true, I think, as Kenko says in his Idleness,
That all beauty depends upon disappearance,
The bitten edges of things,
the gradual sliding away
Into tissue and memory,
the uncertainty
And dazzling impermanence of days we beg our meanings from,
And their frayed loveliness.”
~ Charles Wright – The World of the Ten Thousand Things
*a big thank you to Shawna Lemay for exposing me to such wonderful poetry.
Photo of great lightness! a subject like suspended in space, a nice sensation
This is truly glorious, Susan. And thank YOU for introducing me to Shawna and all the fine poetry she shares…
beautiful, thank you for this!
So lovely
A wonderful photograph. So stylish and delicate. I love the limited colour palette. The words by Charles Wright are beautiful, too. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I could have said it as well as Otto did! 🙂
And beautiful poetry it is! With the addition of your beautiful photo with just the littlest piece of ice…
Goodness! You’re lovely. I love the photos o your son in the previous post 🙂
Thank you, Shawna. Actually, Andy happened to need a photo for his portfolio, thus the reason for the suit and tie. 🙂
I love the curve of this branch and the soft focus on the back leaves. Lovely poetry too.
I’ve not always been a true devotee of poetry, mostly because some of it is just too hard for me to process. This I read twice! and is the perfect fit for the lovely image
I’m so glad you liked it! Sometimes all it takes is finding that one poem that hits home and suddenly you’re hooked! I’ve always loved poetry but since reading Shawna’s blog I have become a bit obsessed. 🙂
You are right…the perfect poem can carry a beautiful photo home. A perfect match here. Now to check out Shawna’s blog.
I’ve been reading Calm Things most mornings with tea, before the day really begins, which as you can imagine is a good way to begin. What a fantastic photo you have here! The creamy, smooth colors and clean light that I associate with your work, and then the perfect focus and that bit of ice that makes it all the more meaningful (particularly with the Wright poem).
Thank you so much and I’m so happy that you are reading Shawna’s blog…I read it every night before I go to bed, it’s so wonderfully calming!
What wonderful poetry to go with your exquisite image.
Beautiful capture Susie – love the creamy background. Wasn’t familiar with this poetry – it’s glorious and works wonderfully with your shot.
You have captured the fragility of gently sliding away so beautifully.
Thank you friends for your visits and sweet comments. It was a beautiful autumn and I’m a bit sad to see it go.
