winter solstice

sparkle and shine

as the sun breaks through

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow,
And we,
we were children once again.

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you….
In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other;
only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself.

snow day

nowhere to go

You're as cold as ice...

Welcome, winter.
Your late dawns and chilled breath make me lazy,
but I love you nonetheless.

  1. All gorgeous images, Susan. The light in that second photo is glorious! The last leaf is so delicate and beautiful and all the snow is so beautiful. What a great way to celebrate the winter solstice! Such a cute little fluffed up bird on your header as well! Still waiting for snow here!!

  2. And to you also, Susan!
I thought we just might have a white Christmas, but…
temps in the 50s and rain makes me think it’s not happening. 😦
    Have a great weekend!

  3. The last two quotes do much to explain my tendency to hibernate this time of year. The images, as always, wrap me in a warm glow.

  4. Such beautiful images, Susan…very compelling words with them, as well. I could sit and look at all of it for hours…so very nice.
