hello september

“Happily we bask in this warm September sun,
Which illuminates all creatures…”
– Henry David Thoreau

my son is all settled back at college…his senior year (yikes!)
and I’m settling back into the rhythms…the routines
back to my walks around the lake
and the pond
me and the mosquitoes…damn, I’ll be glad when they’re gone!
noticing how the light is changing
a few yellow leaves on the trees
and apples!
don’t know what the farmers have to say
but it looks to me like it’s going to be a good apple season
looking forward to lots of pie baking this fall!

  1. Noticing the light changing here, too. It also looks like our trees have bypassed colors (mostly yellow in our area) and gone directly to brown or fallen this year. It’s been hotter and very dry this summer. Enjoy the empty nest! (?)

    • Well I hope you get some rain soon! Seems the west coast has had their share of the heat this summer. And thank you…I’m enjoying my empty nest very much at the moment…some nice “me time”!

  2. As always, such beautiful photographs, Susan.
Our leaves have been slowly changing for about 2 weeks now.
My run this morning was actually a bit chilly.
Definitely getting to be “that time” of year.

    • Thank you Lisa! I think you are a bit ahead of us up there…although it has cooled off quite a bit in the last couple days. I imagine that you’re back to work now?

  3. Susan you never disappoint! Beautiful images. Gorgeous bokeh in all, but especially the last of the hydrangea. And, I am in total agreement with you on the mosquitoes. For some reason they have really liked me this year! Blessings, Robyn

    • This has been a bad year for those pesky things!! Thank you so much Robyn and I feel the exact same about your beautiful images…very inspired by your work!

  4. Your blog is such a treat to visit. You photographs and thoughts are lovely. I just packed our son AND daughter off to college…each going in different directions, so I know how you feel!

    • Thank you Elisa! I feel the same about your blog as well. Yes, kids off to college does take some adjusting but after sending them off many times, I have now gotten used to it! They come home…and they come home a lot!!

  5. glorious susan…that magical late-summer light. you’ve captured it so beautifully. glad to hear your son is settled back in. glad to know i’m not the only one that it takes a minute to feel settled myself. here’s to beautiful light and the hope of a big apple harvest.

    • Thanks so much Kelly! Yes, after having them home all summer, the quiet does take some getting used to! But I learned very quickly that there is no such thing as a totally empty nest! Yes, cheers to the lovely light and a good apple season!!

  6. Love, love, love the first photo. Simplicity at its best.

The spider will definitely get disappointed to find a leaf caught in the web πŸ™‚

    • I thought so too…funny how once you pick up a camera you notice all the little changes in light…something I once never paid any attention to!
