What dreadful hot weather we have!  It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance.

~ Jane Austen

third heatwave of the summer
it’s been in the 90’s all week with very high humidity
the kind that takes your breath away when you walk out the door
my gardens are overgrown with crabgrass
the lawn needs mowing and the shrubs need a trim
but it will all have to wait until Sunday
when cooler weather is expected…hopefully!

I’ve been going outside in short spurts
to fill the birdfeeder and bird bath
or to take a quick photo
drinking gallons of ice tea and dining on ice cream
while it’s nice and cool in my air conditioned house
I’m longing to open all the windows!

I have to say though
this heat has sure made for some spectacular sunsets…

We are leaving once again for Vermont
picking up my boy after a month of playing in The Green Mountain  Chamber Music Festival
anxious to hear all about it

Wishing you all a very cool weekend ahead!

  1. But your images are the epitome of elegance! Have a great time in the mountains and enjoy the coolness.

  2. It’s forecast to be even hotter and more humid here in the UK next week. My wife can’t cope! Great photos btw. What does your son play?

    • Oh no! Yes, I’m like your wife, I have a hard time coping with the heat and humidity. It finally broke here yesterday…probably heading across the pond to you! My son plays the violin. He’s been up in Vermont for a month taking part in a chamber music festival. He loved it!

    • Thanks Sarah! I hope you’re staying cool over there…funny how our weather is similar. It finally cooled down yesterday…have you gotten any relief yet?

      • We should be getting some relief over the next few days. It’s 32C today but after the coming storms it should go down to a more comfortable 25C. It’s the humidity that’s the worst though. I don’t mind dry heat so much! Just to really top it off the fan in the bedroom died last night. I’m off out to replace it in a bit!

      • Same here, I don’t mind a dry heat but that humidity just zaps me! Happy to hear that relief is coming!

    • 106!? Wow, I really shouldn’t be complaining here! Hope you’re staying cool and enjoying those grandkids!

      • The heat finally broke here but may return this coming weekend…hope you get a break soon!

      • We’ve had so much humid weather during the summer…wish I could say I’m used to it but I don’t think I’ll ever be! Bring on that dry heat!

  3. THIS is the best handling of hot material I’ve read in a long time. 🙂

  4. Sunrises over here have been mind blowing as well!

    This earth is AMAZING

We wake to wonder and the sky goes to sleep such a pretty color

I agree very hot I do the same thing toss a Frisbee in early morning hours, care for the birds, damn them Black Bears lol and clean and fill birdbath and water the garden and plants if we had no storms roll through then a little sun for Vitamin D and dash back inside 🙂

Sunday through Tuesday I hope to let the fresh air in as well 🙂

    • My windows are open today! You have Black Bears?! Now that’s exciting! I keep waiting to see one here! Enjoy your week!

      • You too I am trying to get his photo before JT sees him and barks 🙂 I need PHOTOS! Gorgeous yesterday nice but a little humid here 15 miles from NH coast and tonight late rains roll in till Wed. morning I can let the garden care for it’s self for a few days 🙂 Enjoy as well!

  5. What fabulous sunsets indeed Susan! Gorgeous! I love the first and last images in the first set you posted this evening as well…simple and lovely. Safe travels and stay cool! Blessings, Robyn

    • Thank you very much Robyn. Vermont was so much cooler and there was a nice mountain breeze…so refreshing. Yesterday, the heatwave broke here at home too. I finally have some energy now to get some things done outdoors!

  6. And not inelegant at all – the sunsets are pretty, the bunnies charming, and Rudbeckia just gorgeous, and the iced tea looks so good!

    • Thank you so much. The heatwave finally broke yesterday…I feel re-energized! Now onto all that weeding…

  7. I picked some black-eyed susans myself this morning, and they sit in a jar on my altar…in the relentless heat… beautiful pictures, be well~

  8. Beautiful series, Susan.
We finally got a break from the heat late yesterday afternoon.
Hope it’s arrived there for you also.
