April Christmas

so why do they call this
a Christmas Cactus
when it never blooms
on Christmas?

  1. Because it’s an Easter Cactus!! 😀 I have one of each….. one blooms at Xmas, the other should be opening up pretty quick. (You can force them to bloom at a certain time… google it.)

  2. These are beautiful, Susan.
I have 4 of these and all of them have been blooming since Halloween.
They always bloom right around then, but have never kept blooming this long.
No complaints though, because I love these flowers.

    1. How lucky you are Lisa! I’ve had this one for many years, it was a gift from a student of mine. It usually blooms 2x a year but never on Christmas! They are gorgeous flowers.

  3. This is funny ! I was looking at my Christmas cactus last night thinking the same thing. Thought about photographing it, but I wouldn’t have done anything nearly as beautiful as what you have done in this series.

  4. WOW! I had one once that bloomed at Thanksgiving – I read about the different blooming cycles somewhere but I don’t remember exactly the answer – anyway, who cares?!?!? These are superb. (2nd is my fav!)

  5. My Christmas cactus bloomed in April, too! I’d been given the plant as an early Christmas gift (no blooms) and it must have been a hybrid–In April the blooms were huge, vivid and RED. Except for one small pink blossom and a larger white one.
